Houston Equine Photographer | Holiday Photos for A Girl & Her Welsh Pony

As a photographer, I get to capture special moments that vary greatly in purpose and emotion. You may book a photographer for some of the happiest days of your life such as a wedding, birthday party, or family celebration- or you may hire a photographer to document sad times like illness, funerals, or goodbyes. Whatever the reason, there is one connecting factor and that is that these moments are fleeting and after all is said and done all you’ll have left are the memories.

Mac and Lauren’s Dove Ridge Farm Session

I recently did a session at Dove Ridge Farm of a sweet Welsh pony named Mac and one of his favorite little girls, Lauren. Mac was diagnosed with lymphoma, and his family wanted photos to remember him by, along with ones of him and Lauren for their Christmas card. A sudden cool front blew in the day of our session, so we decided to stay warm in the barn aisle.

The beautiful barn at Dove Ridge Farm provided the perfect backdrop for our festive session with Lauren and Mac and they both looked absolutely adorable. Lauren is just 4 years old, and Mac was so gentle and patient with her. She planted big kisses and hugs on him, and he seemed to know his job like any trusty pony. He stayed totally focused until we tried to get photos without Lauren, at which point he figured he must be done if his little girl was done! Mac is a beautiful pony and it’s evident he has such a sweet soul that I know will be sorely missed by his family when he goes.

I find that many times when I am called to photograph a horse or other animal, it is after a difficult diagnosis. It is tough, but also one of the most special and important parts of what I do. It’s bittersweet photographing moments like these, knowing how painful this season of life can be, but also how treasured the memories will be. I personally treasure every photo I have of my animals who have passed, and I love being able to capture equally important photos for my clients.

These moments are fleeting, and happy or sad, in the end it’s all a memory. Looking back, our hearts flicker with happiness as we’re transported right back to that moment through photographs.

Capturing these moments for Lauren and her family was such an honor. It’s so heart warming to be entrusted with this task as their Houston Equine Photographer.
